Words from a Brown Queer Girl


Some poems arrive in a single night. These two took years.

"Words" began in 2013 as a love letter to language itself: the way words tempt and haunt us, lift and wound us, bury and bless us. "Brown Queer Girl" began in 2021 as a conversation with the girl I used to be, and it waited five years for the woman who could finish it.

In September 2026, I brought both to the stage of the Alberta Rose Theatre for the Portland Queer Arts Spectacular: The World We Create. This chapbook holds them on the page, signed, for the people who want to carry that night home.
